Colonel Sanders got to his feet, albeit flailingly. Once he was, he was ready; her kick hit him in the breastbone, but dire chickens were tough creatures, unlike most birds. They had bones able to take a beating and were far too heavy to flew. He squawked again, ducking his head underneath her cartwheeling kick. It went through the crest of plumage and he struck his head down for her collar.

The Colonel tried to get a bite onto the fur pelt mantle and lift up sharply -- then with a sudden twist of his neck, fling her aside and into a nearby wall.

Even dire chickens knew how to throw their opponents!

Lera, in the meantime, started recording it with her phone. Yeah, she thought, this was happening.
