[Duncan/Ezra] - Clearing out the place
Who: Duncan & Ezra
When: Thursday, 9/29
Where: The Vahishta's chambers, Bastan
Before/After: After his dmail with Ezra
Warnings: Drinking, burning shit that never belonged to you, that should be it
[Duncan's waiting for Ezra in front of the church in jeans and a T-shirt, of course with a long-sleeved shirt underneath because that addition to his Earth wardrobe will not be changing anytime soon. When Ezra arrives, Duncan leads him into the Vahishta's chambers.]
[there used to be a gun-tree growing out of one of the armchairs, but it's gone now, and any structural damage left in its wake has since been repaired. The chair's even been replaced with a brand new recliner that...doesn't really match the rest of the room. comfortable as shit, though.]
[Duncan shows Ezra where the kitchen is--it's tiny, but there was more than enough room to put in a coffeemaker and a full-size fridge, which is stocked with soda and beer, including the case of Nenakret-brewed stuff he picked up on his way back. There's also a liquor shelf with a meagre collection of bottles, most from Earth but a couple Zenderael ones he's picked up since he got here. Ezra is welcome to whatever he likes.]
[Duncan grabs a beer for himself before finally heading into the study, where the old Vahishta's stuff has been boxed and piled up in the corner. The room is pretty spacious, mostly filled with bookshelves loaded with antique-looking books. There's a desk too, where Duncan's laptop usually sits (currently at his hotel room in the Nenakret), with a modern very comfortable desk chair that obviously was not the room's original fixture.]
There it is. [he motions to the boxes in the corner] All the shit I've cleared out to make room for my own.

Only time I ever saw him was in the middle of the fuckin' ice age with his stomach split open, so I dunno.
[ he takes a portfolio into his lap and begins to flip through it. pictures of trees? he frowns a little as he keeps going, expression settling again ]
...nah. Not really. Redecorated a bit. Ras helped me move some shit. The meeting room alone is bigger than my old apartment.
[ he finds one page unfolds and he pulls it open like a centerfold ] Fuckin' trees. [ he takes a drink from the bottle and puts the pages back together ]
no subject
[HE SPENT THAT WHOLE TIME STUCK IN A SUPPLY CLOSET WITH JORDAN. ugh just remembering that pisses him off. MOVING ON.]
[he glances over at Ezra to see what the trees comment was about]
Oh, that. Yeah, I dunno.
I'm finding a lot of histories over here but I guess that's not surprising.
no subject
[ it was different with rotem and the rest of them but once they were out of the picture... he can't even remember reading any of the quest stuff or anything when he powered through with ras and tristan.
he glances through the notes made on the pages, but ultimately ends up putting them in the wastebasket. They're gonna have to do this a few times, aren't they? ]
Think he forgot a lot of shit? Just... got so old small detail didn't really mean anything anymore? Ugh. That kind of thought gives me the shivers.
no subject
I really, really hope not.
I told you I'm apparently going to live forever now, right? I think I mentioned that?
no subject
...not really. [ he stares at him a moment, looking uncomfortable ] Not outright, anyway. Forever?...
[ he doesn't like the sound of that. that sounds terrible, actually. just the idea of a hundred extra years doesn't sound that great.
of course, ezra is also a terrible coward and he'd live as long as he could given the chance, but he doesn't let himself think too long on the subject.
he flips the book open and glances through it before letting it drop beside him. it's too big to put into the can he brought and it actually might be useful, just as a thing. the next books are much smaller, like pocket books. he starts to flip through them, too, more like a picture book than a book you read.
he'd get the same amount out of it, honestly. ]
no subject
Are you sure I didn't mention this? I'm pretty sure I did. ...But I was running on nothing but caffeine and adrenaline at the time...so maybe I didn't actually...
no subject
I wonder if any of this is actually useful for anything... [ a lot of numbers in this one. some sort of budget maybe? thank god cuthbert is good at that stuff. ] What would even be useful...?
no subject
[he pauses and looks up, considers it. good question. what would be useful?]
I guess it's not like we'll just find a Greycloak members list just lying around, huh?
Two thousand years probably makes you smarter than that.
If you see any histories in there though, save 'em. That shit is fascinating.
no subject
[ he scowls again vaguely as he skims a page, flips a few, skims again. living that long... that doesn't seem right, either. ]
History, sure. Better pay more attention to what I'm reading, I guess.
...I wonder how long the greycloaks have been around. Like, was it really just recently, or maybe he's had 'em with him for awhile?
[ well, this book his giving him fuck all. he puts it aside and picks up another ]
no subject
[he trails off, squinting thoughtfully at the wall to Ezra's left.]
...Hey. [suddenly looking to Ezra again] Do you think the Greycloaks are the ones that killed that councilman's wife? Before all this shit started going down?
no subject
he looks back to the book, noting it seems to be clerical gobbledegook. he tosses it lightly over to duncan to make sense of. ]
Eh? You mean Mrs. Hutchins? [ he stares back, frowning after a moment ] ...well, I mean, it's possible, isn't it? [ he reaches up to rub at his chin, trying to remember ] I wasn't paying much attention to the news then... had anything leaked by that point? The councillor must have known something for them to target her at that time. But it all would have been initiated the minute Zen went live, right?
no subject
[Duncan almost catches the book, but fumbles it. he winces, retrieves it, then flips it open to scan it. eyes light up-- ] Whoa, shit, this is magic theory as applies to healing! Damn, this would've been nice to have a month ago. Where'd you find it?
[he puts the book down and gets up, moves over to kneel near Ezra. he sets his beer down to dig through the box.]
Oh--uh, yeah, I guess they would've needed to have everything planned before the game ever came out. I wonder how they managed all that shiiii---
[he goes still. eyes wide. suddenly whips his head up and stares at Ezra.]
...The cops confiscated their servers, right?
The cops...of the city...that we're now in charge of...
no subject
he glances around him and finds the bottle behind him, precariously close. he picks it up and takes a swig of it.
drinking. when was the last time he just sat around and drank? the bunch of them. was jordan still there? god, he could barely even remember that anymore. he shook his head slightly, not quite listening to Duncan.
he catches the look though while he's being stared at, bottle halfway to his lips. ]
What? Yeah, even I knew about it. They took the whole thing... the whole thing down...
...you think- seriously? Fucking, seriously? Should I be making a phonecall?
no subject
[pulling out his phone, scrolling through the numbers of important officials to find the one that seems most helpful]
If they have the servers maybe we can figure out how the fuck they did everything they did. They confiscated everything, right--maybe there's records that can tell us who they were working with.
[ugh he has no law enforcement officials in here besides Ezra, major oversight on his part. He settles on Dorothy Beauregard, his 'handler' as it were, who is always on top of her shit and has never let him down when he needed something done]
[pauses before dialing though and looks at Ezra] Do you have the number? I'd have to make a call to get it.
no subject
Far as I know. Maybe some of it went out of the state, though- I remember a lot of the employees were handed over to another authority.
Yeah, I got the number. What am I asking for- the servers, files, everything?
no subject
Yeah, everything. Tell them we're willing to come in and look at it there, too. They probably have detectives who've already been digging through that shit, we want to talk to them too.
no subject
Okay, lemme give 'em a call. [ he grunts and gets up, knee cracking this time, and he gives a bit of a hobble as he walks aside and selects the number, toeing another book as he clears his little book barricade.
his voice changes a little when he talks to people like this on the phone- the informality drops and everything comes out crisp and authoritative. brief greetings, right to business. x-dav stuff, did anything make it through- they need to look at it, is that possible- does it have anything to do with the parade? yes, very well it could- he glances over to duncan. so do they have any of it? ]
no subject
[he doesn't think anything of the shift in Ezra's voice from casual to official. he does the same thing when he needs to, he just...feels the need to a bit less often.]
[as for whether they have any of it, Ezra will receive a yes, they still have the servers in the evidence room, along with everything that was confiscated from X-DAV, but none of the detectives working on that case are on duty at the moment and would need to be called in if the guild leaders wanted to speak with them.]
no subject
Do you want to look at them now or later? The detectives can't come in until later when they're off duty.
no subject
Huh? [looks up, pause] Uhhh, I'd rather do it when we have detectives there. So later, I guess.
[he turns back to the box and digs out a portrait, cocks his head at it, then turns it for Ezra to see. Definitely the ex-Vahishta, but clean-shaven and with a much less ridiculous haircut.] It's so fucking weird to think he just changed his hair every 50 years and people bought that it was a different guy every time.
