There was no comment about his sleeve wiping because Jordan would have done the same in his place. She also would have flipped Mal the bird, but it would have been friendly in nature because there was a comfortable coarseness Jordan had with friends.
It wasn't something she'd felt in a while. Not something she would be feeling anytime soon.
"Is he always so obnoxious?" she asked, then instantly felt guilty for figuratively throwing Rhys under that bus. She lowered her eyes. "Nevermind."

Yes.
But he has to put up with me, too.
Even without that to consider, Mal's obnoxiousness didn't mean he wasn't a good friend when it counted. Still, Rhys knew dealing with himself was never easy, and it had only gotten more difficult since the riots.
Well, so do you.
Thanks.

"Stop being a matyr," said Jordan, piercing a stuffed pepper with her fork and lifting it to her mouth. "You're fine."

Instead, he started on his meal, unused to both Greek food and actual vegetarian dishes that weren't more or less raw carrots for dinner.
He left his fork in his mouth with the first taste, expression turned thoughtful. It wasn't bad.

She was content to eat in silence. That is, until her eyes fell on a particularly large figure in the distance. "Ah," came out, mid-bite, as Jordan recognized him as the security guard who'd saved her and Duncan back in February.

"The security guard," she said, lowering her fork. "From the first meet."
A smaller man with brown hair and more kebabs than Jordan thought a person could ever hold in one hand was a few feet away from him. She didn't pin him as anyone, though, not having been familiar with Quartz or her characters.
Noelle had told her that she would be at the festival, but she hadn't said anything about anyone else.

Rhys gave the room a quick survey, but the act was pointless.
Could be more.
Guess you're right about these events.
It made him feel guilty for asking Jordan to come with him.

"Don't do something stupid," kind of just popped out of her mouth, and while she may have felt a little bad for her word choice, she didn't for saying it.

It was going to bite him in the ass one day. (Ha ha, like she was one to talk.)

He meant it, too. At least about this particular stupid thing.
