[Being stuck on another world with nothing to do while your first-grade son is a prisoner to god knows who is about the worst thing a mother could ever feel. (God, please don't try to prove her wrong.) She couldn't sleep, couldn't eat and with nothing to do but wait and pray, all that was left to her was to think.

And all of those thoughts. So many. all of them terrible, all of them worried and frightened and thinking about the worst that could happen. Not even being around Sam's old crayon drawings could cheer her up.

And like everything else, Lindsey didn't want to tell anyone. Not like they could do anything and would only leave them feeling as worthless as she did.

So she drank. More than was needed to simply sleep easier, or maybe it was just to keep out the nightmare that had become life. She didn't even bother to hide it now, with her small sample liquor bottles (most of them empty) next to the coffee machine and a half finished cup of coffee. Not that she could really reach those anyway, sitting against her new kitchen cabinets on the ground, one hand clinging to some vodka like it was some plushie.

Good thing she gave away her tablet and had no idea where her cellphone was, that'd probably be embarrassing. Not that she was too drunk or anything.

Who would she even call? Were operators still around?

One of them probably had a cute voice if they did. That was in their job description, right?

She took another swig, dousing a bit of hair that was caught in her mouth. whoops. Maybe showering would be good.

Maybe her son would suddenly appear like how he disappeared if she did.

You're probably the only one who really pushes. [Sighes and runs her fingers through her own mane.] I've pretty much kicked out everyone else.

[Just stares at the ceiling. Even in a drunken stupor, the problems were still lingering back there.]

It doesn't really change anything though.

No. [that's the whole problem, isn't it?] But at least you're not the only one who's worried about it.

[she sucks in her breath a little, as if she's about to say something, but instead thinks against it. She runs her fingers through her hair again and covers her eyes with her palm.]

...Right. [Not at all sounding convinced...or maybe just doesn't want to talk about it, or obviously pissed drunk, or maybe all three. who the fuck knows.]

[He falls silent again. What the hell can he say to that? Lindsey you just made this awkwardness even more awkward.]

[he turns back down to his phone again, scrolling but not really reading]

[there's nothing he can say to make this better and he knows it. she already knows Rhys is going to try to save Sam, it won't make her feel better to have it repeated. the only thing that'll help now is confirmation that Sam is no longer in Bastan and is somewhere safe instead, and all they can do until they get that news is fret and wait.]

[To be quite honest with herself, Sam was only part of the problem. A very large, and terrible part, but not entirely the whole thing either. For Lindsey everything had sort of wrapped itself into one giant bag. She thought talking to Missie that one time had helped her a little, and it did, but talking to a really pretty and optimistic friend wouldn't really change things outside of the short term.

It was sort of funny, the one person she could talk to about this and who would probably understand, and yet Lindsey wasn't sure how to approach it. inebriation not withstanding...]

Hey... [Her voice is low, barely above a mutter. She waits for attentive response.] Can I ask you something?

[he looks up at the 'hey', waiting for her to continue]

[his voice is on the soft side] Yeah, sure.

[Voice still low, but serious] What...kind of person do you see in me?

[he lowers the phone, letting out a soft sigh through his nose.]

A stubborn motherfucker who worries an awful lot about some things, and not nearly enough about others.

[Peeks out a little from under her palm to look at him with a curious eye. What exactly do you mean by that? If anything, Lindsey felt she cared about too much in general.]

[he notices her reaching and sort of leans back from her, even though he really doesn't have to]

[Gives one or two more swings before just lets her arm drop]

[The story of her life, really. If Duncan could read faces, that message was definitely all over Lindsey's look.]

[Damn it. She was starting to get angry and upset. The fog of drunkness was supposed to keep this all down and out of the way from her. She shut her eyes tight, pushing that bubbling flood of emotion back down at out of the way.]
