Through blurry, tear-filled vision she caught the feather wafting away. Whatever the warhounds were doing here, they had gone after--
She looked at the smashed in cellar door. Her breath caught and without a thought, she vaulted over the roof and landed in a crouch that could only happen because of superhuman strength. Then she rushed forward, to the cellar, and looked into it.

The impact, though "softened" by a great deal of splintered wood, had left his senses ringing with pain he did not very much want to investigate. Getting up, thinking... these seemed like unpalatable alternatives to lying wherever he was in a daze forever. But wasn't there some kind of danger...?
As coherent thought returned to him, and he realized he had fallen off of a rooftop after declaring that they should try to jump over the rooftops, he let out a pitiful and frustrated groan.
What was his life!

The fresh wave of relief hit her, making her feel incredibly grateful to fate or whatever it was. A little off, and the warhounds could have...
She wiped at her eyes again. "You stupid fucking idiot! You fell into this cellar and it's dusty and it's bothering my eyes!"

He propped himself up to look at her, sucking in a breath at the discomfort of moving. While almost everything felt like one large bruise, the pain was sharpest near his right ankle. He definitely didn't want to try to get up.
"That's too bad because we're going to live here from now on." He coughed on some of the dust his fall had kicked up. "Welcome to our home sweet cellar."

Chisaki walked over and glowered up at him -- it still ruined the effect a little -- and, finally, threw her arms around him and hugged tightly. She put her head against his chest, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath that she managed to keep under control. Somehow.
"You're okay," she murmured. "I was... you know. I was really fucking worried. I didn't--if you had--" She clamped her mouth shut at that, not trusting herself to say more.

He made some faces over her shoulder as the tight hug squeezed his ribcage, patting her on the back as she struggled to conceal her emotions.
When she released him, he looked at her more seriously.
"Aren't we doomed now, though?"
It had been hard enough trying to get out of the city alive when he could walk.

"I'll have to carry you."

"Are you sure that will even work? You're... you're like this big!" He held out a flat hand to indicate where he believed Chisaki's height to be; given that he was sitting on a collapsed pile of boxes, it came out to about three feet.
Maybe he could walk! He didn't even know yet! He stuck out his feet and settled his weight on them, and then made some unique and creative noises, grabbing onto Chisaki on his way to the floor.

"This is weird," he complained.

She stood up straight, then she waited -- making sure her grip on him was secure and vice versa -- before she started walking. Once she was sure she could hold him and not aggravate the hurt leg further, she started jogging. Then, finally, she began running. She ran fast and hard.
She ran faster than a human could; it was clear, then, that she had been going slow for Nova's sake.

Next time they were being chased by horrifying monsters and/or butchering invaders, he was going to ask her to do this from the get-go, his dignity be damned.
