[EVENT] - Medena's solstice

[All the real partyin' is gonna be happening from twilight to sunrise, with some inn-owners volunteering the booze (they are not checking IDs ofc), some catering ala monster hunters and the bonfire, and a couple local bands volunteering some music--there's an even split of indie groups from Earth and performers that crossed over from Zen, even a few collaborations between them. Tip them if you like them!]

[This is pretty illegal actually, but nobody's going to try to stop them until the bonfire gets out of control late Tuesday night.]

Ah, I suppose. But not everyone can use magic? Our stoves use fire and we use brooms to sweep instead of vacuums. [Not that she'd ever cooked. And she'd always cheat when she had to do chores... Enchanted brooms and dusters...]

I can, though! Use magic. [She holds her hand up and concentrates, calling up an illusion spell which makes a little unicorn appear in her hand. It's not very solid, kind of wisp-like and ghostly.] See?

But would they if they could buy magical devices to use...? I suppose that's the advantage of machines! You can trade them to anyone...

[wait o m g that is magic it is also a unicorn and it is magic. Missie jumps, grins, and lets out a soft squeal as she bounces in place and claps her hands.]

[That was better than she'd hoped! And almost contagious.]

You like unicorns? Maybe you can meet Glory sometime. [Would that be safe...?]

[The ghostly unicorn fades and vanishes and Irena relaxes her hand, gazing at it ponderously.]

Maybe I can put on a magic show...

You know one?! [Named Glory!?]

Do you do that in Zenderael? People on Earth have magic shows sometimes. Oh, except, it's not real magic. Tricks, mostly! But it's still fun.

Yes! She was my mount on Zenderael. She came here with me, but she is staying with a friend. It was not safe for her... [Maybe it was safer now that Earthers were so used to things... Then again, maybe it'd be less safe???]

Ah? Oh. Sometimes? They are mostly used to magic though so it is not as exciting, I don't think?

[She may have to look up these magic tricks later...]

Oooh... [All you get is vocal awe, Irena. How amazing! ... Vati never had a mount...]

Earth people should like it, at least! But... well, I don't know. I think even if you knew magic, magic you didn't know yet would still be amazing, wouldn't it?

I... I suppose? [Her voice lowers] But I think some are afraid of mages...

But Earthers are not afraid of mages! A-are they?

Oh. Um. [Missie looks thoughtful.] Some probably are. People can be skittish about the things they don't understand.

Oh. [That makes her sad. :( Maybe she won't do a magic show...]

Are you afraid of mages? [She didn't seem to be, but maybe she was just hiding it...]

[Missie shakes her head.] No! Or, not really. I think if a mage attacked me with fire, that would frightening. [She laughs nervously.]

But I figure most mages don't do that sort of thing.

[Irena's eyes go wide.] No mage would attack you! I don't think... I mean, you seem nice? I do not think you would provoke any mage enough for them to do that.

[None of the ones she knew, anyway.]

I wouldn't!

[Missie brightens.] That's a relief! I'll try not to do anything offensive.

[...]

Is it fun, being a mage?

[Irena brightens, too! Yay, new friend! Though she's an Earther.. hmm.]

Yes! I've been learning a lot! About Earth and about magic. [That... might require some explanation?]

I only knew combat spells before. And teleport. That's how I can go back to Zenderael. Oh, and levitation...

But! Now I can enchant things and cast some defensive spells on myself and others and do transmogrification and am trying to learn translation spells because there are many people in the Nenakret who speak French and I've never heard French before. [...that was a lot. She stops and blinks at Missie to see if she caught all that.] ...And illusions. [Okay now she stops.]

[Oh, she can go back? Missie listens, staring mostly as she tries to take it in. She's always know about combat spells, but the other things-- the teleporting and levitating and translations!?! and oh my goodness gracious all the awesome parts of being a mage!]

How long does it take to learn all of that?

[Irena blinks. It had taken her aaaages to master combat magic! At least she thinks so? Did being controlled limit how quickly you could learn things...?]

I am not sure. I'm still learning most of it but can do some? It takes lots of practice and study! [And with everything going on she's been kind of lax on her studies, whoops.]

That would make sense. [Totally thinking about this... magic is so great...! Maybe she wouldn't need as much help with monsters if she knew some? Not that she minds Nadir walking her home sometimes.]

What's your favorite spell?

Ah? [Irena gets a quizzical look on her face. Did she have a favourite spell? She'd never really thought about it before.]

Levitation is a lot of fun? [Did that count?]

[Heck yes it counts. Missie claps.]

Floating, right? You can make yourself float?

[Approval! Irena smiles!]

Yes! [and of course this means she demonstrates, by levitating herself a half a foot off the ground and letting her feet dangle in the air.]

[But then she remembers the whole 'afraid of mages' thing and drops back to the ground a little too quickly, stumbling forward.]

[Oh dear! Missie reaches out to help catch and stabilize Irena so she doesn't fall after landing.]

[But she's bouncing a little as she does so.]

How does anyone ever choose anything other than a mage?!

[She appreciates it! And was about to apologize but Missie seems way too excited to have been bothered and she's bouncing?]

Ah... Becoming a mage is dangerous. [So nonchalantly that she might as well have said the grass is green.]

And some people just prefer close combat or mixing potions or playing with nature or... What the other guilds do.

[Oh, yeah, Missie forgets about that part...]

[But Irena seems perfectly fine ~~hahaha~~]

But the other guilds can do fun things! [She tries to think of specifics...]

[Okay she doesn't know a whole lot about the other guilds, maybe she should... fix this.]

They seem to like their guilds anyway.

I like being a mage. [Noooot really helping.]

I suppose spellswords get those eyes of theirs! And assassins can disappear.

We don't have guilds on Earth, so it's interesting...

Spellswords can see magic! I think they see it different... [Maybe she should compare notes... Maybe with Marlene??]
